Is post-abortion grief a real thing?

It is. Emotional responses to abortion vary. They may depend on a woman’s age, the stage of her pregnancy at the time, religious or cultural beliefs, previous mental health, or whether she felt pressured into having an abortion.

We respond to many women each year seeking help for negative post-abortion emotions. Many women look for a safe place to speak about their feelings, and we provide such a safe place.

Each woman is met with respect and provided with the support she is looking for. This may be a single visit where she can speak about her feelings regarding her abortion experience, or on-going support, such as our Post-Abortion Recovery Education program. The nature of the care is client-led.

If you have had an abortion and are experiencing post-abortion stress or grief, it’s important to know you’re not alone and there is support available for you.

Have you been impacted by abortion?

We know that while it seems simple and straightforward, abortion is one of the most difficult topics to talk about – just getting started is sometimes the hardest part. When we want to process our thoughts and emotions, it can get complicated. Not everyone is a safe place to discuss our feelings and experiences.

If you’re feeling grief, you need compassion, not judgment. Our trained support workers are here to journey with you. We’re experienced in post-abortion grief recovery and understand the unique issues you may be facing. Our sessions can help you move from pain and loss to comfort and healing.

It may take awhile to process the emotions you’ve held inside and feel more hopeful. That’s okay: All our services are free, and we’re here to help and support you for as long as you need.

You are not alone. We are here for you.
