Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club…

It’s more than a game… It’s a tradition!

A little background…

The Richmond Hill Golf Club Ltd., incorporated in March 1929, operated in its old location on Richmond Hill, just west of Grande Prairie until 1965, when it relocated to the present site, just four minutes from city centre. The Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club is a championship course that has a traditional classic design and operates to achieve the finest golf experience in the Peace Country. Each hole has unique characteristics to offer golfers, at every level, a challenge. Four tee settings stretch the course from 5,279 yards to 6,952 yards. Its manicured fairways, mature trees, and pristine greens provide players with a fantastic setting for a match play or purely recreational round of golf.

The Grande Prairie Golf Club is a public facility with few restrictions on public play. A full length driving range, a chipping green with sand bunkers, and two putting greens enable players to prepare for a round or just work on all aspects of their game.

Membership privileges include discounts for guests, preferred tee times, range privileges and access to the practice facilities at no cost. Members have the opportunity to participate in the Members Classic each year, which crowns the Men’s, Ladies, Senior Men’s, Senior Ladies, Junior Men’s and Junior Ladies Club Champions, yet is designed to be enjoyed by members of all skill levels. Members can golf at participating golf clubs at a reduced rate in Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Kamloops. Come and experience the spirit of belonging to the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club.

Nearly every corner of the globe has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that golf is one of the few sports you can still participate in safely – as long as you continue to practice “social distancing” outdoors. With the proper precautions, getting exercise and fresh air is great for your overall health - the physical activity that golf provides increases life expectancy and has a lot of mental health benefits!

Of course, caution will need to be exercised before, during, and after your rounds. When signing into competition books, use your own pen/pencil. Do not exchange scorecards, tees, balls, ball markers etc. Leave the pin in, or only remove it wearing your golf gloves! Skip the handshakes. Wash your hands before and after every round. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in your golf bag for quick cleanups on the course.

The safety of our players and staff will remain our foremost concern, and we will diligently follow all recommendations from Health Canada. We are looking forward to seeing you on the course this year. Stay safe!

Golf is an excellent sport for many reasons that include exercise, social health, and mental heath. During a round of 18 holes, the average golfer walks eight to ten kilometers and can burn upwards of 1,500 calories. It’s a sport that can be played at any stage of life and the exercise is perfect as someone enters their golden years of life, as it’s low impact! The social aspects of golf are also important to keeping an active and healthy life. Many golfers enjoy playing with their friends and have a regular foursome or group that they play with. This is a great way to spend time with people you care about and strengthen already existing bonds. There is also the added benefit of meeting new people whether it be in a tournament, corporate outing, or getting paired up by the starter. Many long-lasting friendships start on the first tee and continue well past the 18th green. Lastly, golf is an excellent way to work on focus, patience, persistence, etc. Golf is a very challenging (and at times frustrating!) game, but when a golfer learns to flow with the good and bad bounces that come their way on the golf course, it can set them up to take the same attitude to their everyday life.

To ensure you are getting the most out of your game and enjoying the walk to the fullest, you need an excellent pair of shoes. At the Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club, we offer shoes from Adidas and FootJoy. These two brands are industry leaders in both performance and comfort. Both companies offer traditional spiked shoes that are more structured and offer a high level of traction and stability. There is also the option to go with a spike less shoe. These shoes tend to have less stability and traction but can offer superior comfort for many golfers.
